I had been renting an apartment in Buenos Aires for a few months: enough time to learn a few words in Spanish, but certainly not enough time to explain technical problems or have a hope of understanding when the locals talk so quickly and use so much slang. When I got a leak in my bathroom I needed it sorted quickly. Water was gushing out of a pipe near the toilet, the floor was flooded and the water was rapidly heading towards the kitchen and electrical appliances in the next room. I tried to phone a few plumbers close by who were advertised on fliers, but I couldn't understand a word they were saying, let alone make them understand what the problem was. Finally I managed to find a plumber who spoke English, but he lived over the other side of the city and wasn't willing to make the journey for less than an extortionate amount of money (even taking into account that I still used to think in pounds a lot of the time!). Now I have been in Buenos Aires a bit longer, I've learnt a bit more of the language so I decided that I could kill two birds with one stone: help people with their plumbing problems and practise my Spanish at the same time. So I have spoken to plumber after plumber after plumber and made a website listing all of the good ones, their contact details and where they are based. The plumbers I have found are a great bunch, they get lots of positive feedback from customers who have had plumbing emergencies dealt with rapidly and at a reasonable price. They are very competitive in their rates, but importantly they are experts in any kind of plumbing problem. Because you can search for a plumber by area you know you will be looking at plumbers who live close to you, so you won't have the same problem I did. All of the plumbers come with personal recommendations from satisfied customers and provide a high quality plumbing service at a low price. |
